1% for the planetThe team at Wipeout are passionate about the mountains and helping to preserve the environment where we work and play is a key priority for us
The Wipeout piste map is eco-friendly because it’s washable and reusable unlike paper piste maps! At the end of your ski holiday, keep hold of your Wipeout, and use it at home to clean your computer, TV, phone screen or the kids’ nose… they are machine washable after all! On a more serious note, we pledge 1% of all turnover to environmental conservation, through an organisation called 1% for the Planet.
1% for the Planet is a a global movement of businesses financially committed to creating a healthy planet. All members donate 1% of sales turnover to a non-profit organisation working on environmental conservation. Through our membership of 1% For The Planet – we have elected to support the French organisation Mountain Riders.
Mountain Riders are dedicated to raising environmental awareness and promoting sustainable development in the mountains. The organisation works closely with schools, attends key events, hosts annual clear-ups and organises the Respect Festival – their own annual eco festival. The group produce an annual Eco Guide to Mountain Resorts which evaluates ski resorts across the Alps on the basis of their eco-credentials. Resorts are rated by the number of positive actions engaged in terms of transport, energy, development, water, waste, social and territory. Chamonix, Les Menuires, La Plagne, Val Thorens and Les Gets all score very highly as resorts that are active in demonstrating a solid commitment to the environment.
They also produce an annual Eco Guide to Mountain Gear which rates the eco-credentials of a variety of leading ski and outdoor brands and gear manufacturers including Haglofs, Icebreaker, Patagonia, Salomon, and many more. We are immensely proud to be associated with the Mountain Riders crew and strongly encourage all visitors to the mountains to be aware of their impact on the beautiful environment we all gain so much pleasure from.
Remember, when the snow melts your chewing gum, cigarette butts and anything else you casually drop from the chairlift remains on the hillside. Take it home with you or use your Wipeout Goggle Bag to stash it until you find a rubbish bin!
